Carol J. Pretlow

Carol J. Pretlow is a tenured associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va. A graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn(B.A. Political Science), Norfolk State University(M.A. Mass Communications); Professor Pretlow has a Juris Doctor(J.D.)and a Masters of International Legal Studies(LL.M.) from The American University Washington College of Law, Washington, D.C.

A life long student, Professor Pretlow's post graduate studies include studies in international relations at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia; studies on the International Criminal Court at the Irish Center for Human Rights of The National University of Galway, Ireland and studies in national security at Galillee College in Nahalal, Israel and at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.

Professor Pretlow's teaching career has included engagements as an adjunct professor of foreign policy at The National Defense University Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia and as a visting professor of international relations at Tongji University in Shanghai, China .

The professor's research engagements have included The W.E.B. Dubois Institute for African American Studies at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass; The Lauterpachet Centre of International Law of Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and most recently, The National Institute of the Humanities of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Under the auspices of The University of Hawaii's East West Center, Professor Pretlow has traveled to Malaysia and South Korea. Additionally ,Professor Pretlow has represented Norfolk State University at the Oxford Round Table, Oxford, UK; The International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities in both Cambridge, UK and in Paris , France as well as through engagements in Lima, Peru and Istanbul, Turkey.

Under the auspices of Norfolk State University's Office of Sponsored Programs, the professor authored and edited three classified publications for the United States Defense Intelligence Agency.

Professor Pretlow's scholastic research has included an "Instructor's Manuel on Logic and Critical Thinking", published by Prentice Hall (2004); and a textbook publication for BVT : "American Government: Strategic Thinking in Race, Politics and Power".

Additionally, the professor has publications in foreign policy and international relations under the auspices of Foreign Affairs Quarterly/ Foreign Affairs Custom Textbooks. The professor 's most recent publications have included :

As an on-call political pundit, the professor represents NSU in the local media including: WAVY-TV(Channel 10) , WVEC-TV(Chanel 13) and WTKR-TV(Chanel 3); as well as monthly on Radio Station WHRV :Another View.

Recently, Professor Pretlow has been invited to join the 2018 on board instructional team of Semester at Sea and its host institution Colorado State University. This engagement is not only expected to compliment her instruction in international politics but is designed to compliment her blog_ "Just Me: Notes of a Political Junkie".
