Vanessa Eddington

Oi! I am Vanessa, I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and moved to the United States when I was 18 years old. I love to learn, play, travel, plan parties, cook, relax, the beach and family is the center of my happiness. Spirituality is a highlight of my life, I like to go to the temple and meditate as it helps me find balance in my life.

I am currently pursuing my degree in Social Work at Norfolk State University. I believe in improvement and my fundamental purpose as a social worker is to help the individuals to become the full measure of who they are. I believe we all have gifts that were given to us and we should use our best talents and strengths to live a fulfilling and productive life.

I am passionate about social causes, especially women and children and as a social worker I want to advocate for those who don’t have a voice. I believe children especially have a voice and their voices should be heard.

I am also a military wife and have two daughters Cindy,13 and Serena, 7. Growing up in a collectivist culture such as Brazil, being connected and supporting the community it’s very important to me. I have served the families in the military community with child care for 7 years and during those years I was able to have many different experiences with the children and their families. I learned alot about human nature and became intrigued by the diversity in human interaction and this led me to my interest in social work. As we are all in a journey I feel that I was being prepared to be where I am today.

I do miss home but I am also grateful to live in a country that afford so many opportunities for development to the people that are here. I believe the family is the strongest unit in society and I am all about anything that will strengthen family life and it all starts by improving ourselves as individuals.
